Town houses

Town houses are typically smaller than freestanding homes.  They are often close together and may be attached to each other, sometimes in a row.

Pros:

  • Usually more affordable than freestanding homes (although in sought-after suburbs they can still be relatively expensive)
  • Often well insulated if they have homes on each side.

Cons:

  • Usually less space than freestanding homes
  • Not so easy to renovate since you may be affecting the homes attached to yours
  • Light and ventilation may be a problem since there is less wall space for windows (applies to town houses that are attached to each other).
