| | You can buy an existing home or if you prefer, buy a section and build your own home. | | Building or buying?
Building has its own pros and cons (see our Building section for more about what’s involved in the building process). Pros of building: - The home, fittings and appliances are brand new
- You aren’t inheriting someone else’s problems
- You get the kind of home you want (within your budget constraints)
- You can get personal satisfaction from being involved in your home’s design and build process.
Cons of building: - Building process takes time and effort, and it can be stressful
- Many building projects take longer and cost more than planned
- You’ll also have to landscape the section
- It can be hard to tell how things will look from the plans, so the finished product may not be exactly what you’re expecting
- Sections are more readily available in new areas – and it can be hard to know what the area will be like. New neighbours may also build out your view.
